Bahamian Doctor Working Abroad On The Front Lines of the COVID-19 Pandemic

For Bahamian doctor, Allyssa Knowles working at a Brooklyn hospital at the centre of the COVID-19 outbreak, the decision to serve on the front lines came naturally.

Knowles was redeployed to help out in emergency care as the her hospital became overwhelmed with the number of COVID-19 cases. In an interview with Bahamas Eyewitness News, Knowles said “a lot of healthcare workers put themselves at risk, many contracted the virus and got sick”

Dr. Allyssa Knowles graduated from Barry University in 2012 with her Doctorate in Podiatric Medicine. Dr. Knowles was a chief resident in 2014-2015 at TBHC. She is currently practicing Podiatric Medicine and Foot & Ankle Surgery at TBHC as well as at several of the hospital’s ambulatory health care centers. Dr. Knowles assists with the residents in the Podiatric Medicine and Surgical Residency Program.
