Our country must confront this basic fact, crime is on the increase, jobs are harder to find and we have an immigration problem. This country of ours, the Bahamas that I love, is facing challenging times.
So it is no surprise that a Bahamian icon, Sir Sidney Poitier, challenge our leaders who recently visited him in California, to step up to the plate and take Bahamas to the next level. This advice came from no better person than a man who has faced several challenges in his life.
Sir Sidney Poitier represents the hard work and perseverance that defines the spirit of many Bahamians. Here is a man who climb over racial barriers in America to become a world class actor, the best of the best. He knows that the many challenges that our country now face can be overcome if we believe in ourselves.

I hope as Bahamians celebrate Sir Sidney Poitier’s legacy, that we learn from his greatness. If we truly believe, Sir Sidney Poitier’s words, “Bahamas is the greatest country in the world“, then we all roll up our sleeves and work to bring meaning to these words “Its Better In The Bahamas“
