Some People Take Me As Nothing Because I Clean The Garbage, says Christabella George
Christabella George is a 47 year old mother of 5 from Dominica and a former drug addict who has been through it all, eating garbage, sleeping in garbage, drug abuse, sexual abuse just to name a few.
For years Christabella struggle to overcome drug addiction until one day while taking drugs, it suddenly came to her that maybe cleaning the garbage around her could be the answer.

Christabella has managed to overcome her addiction to drugs thanks to her job as a street cleaner. Her dedication to her work has given her hope. While the work of a street cleaner might seem uninspiring to many, for Christabella, this job provides her with the ability to focus on something productive.
People like Christabella often go unnoticed or in some case get put down for what they do or how they look.
“Some people take me as nothing because I clean the garbage” says Christabella
Many drug addicts in Dominica or anywhere in the world are invisible and only get a chance to even tell their story and the struggle that they endure each day.
Christabella knows that there is a thin line between a former and a current addict; it is easy to go back to taking drugs. “Addiction never come out of your brains” she said.
I hope Christabella George is recognized as someone who can help to bring about positive change in not only Dominica but also the rest of the Caribbean.
Well done Christabella!
