What is the typical day like for the average Caribbean teenager? When you were much younger, what was your typical day like? Do you remember? I still do.
For the most part my typical day growing up in Freeport, Bahamas, was predictable. I would help my mother to wash the seemingly endless piles of clothes or peel yams for dinner.
My days were mostly filled with fun times. But my typical day was no way close to that of this young Guyanese girl featured in the video below.
This young Guyanese girl’s life seems far remove from the busy life of Guyanese living in the city. There is such a simplicity about what she does each day which reminds me of stories told by my grandmother about her childhood days.
It seems the Caribbean has lost most of that simplicity in the name of development. Many of us live in large towns, on busy streets, with hustling and bustling on a daily basis, just to survive.
It is easy to think that this young Guyanese girl lacks sometime in her life without first thinking about what we maybe missing in our daily lives.
