12 Year old Jean Rosemaine who lives in Bresilienne, Haiti, wouldn’t consider herself to be a hero.
She lives with 10 siblings, eight brothers and two sisters. When her mother is out fetching water, Rosemaine makes the bed and washes dishes. She also help to cook and she enjoys cooking.

But beyond just household chores, Jean tries to help in every way she cans. When her brother got sick (cholera), Jean would help to take care of him.
Jean is not just sitting under a tree waiting for handouts to come from overseas, she is determine to make a better life for herself-and her family. Even with the turmoil that her country is experiencing, Jean knows the importance of a good education. She said,
“I would rather not eat than to miss school”
I have yet to miss a day of school
Those words makes me feel optimistic about her future. Jean is definitely a hero!
Here is the full video of her story.
There are many young Haitians like Rosemaine across Haiti. While they may not make mainstream news, they represent an more optimistic view of Haiti than what we are more accustom to hearing.
