Before you say this is ridiculous, stop and think why Alkaline, a 20 year Jamaican entertainer, has managed to garner so much attention. I’ll will go one step further to state that he is one of the most influential person in the Caribbean.
I have five simple reasons;
1)… He was recently banned from performing in Nevis as the Premier of Nevis feared that Alkaline would have a social and moral influence on 12,000 citizens of Nevis, especially the youth [Imagine young Nevisian teenagers singing to the song “Make it Clap“ ]
2)… He said “”I am willing to go all the way to just prove to people say mi is truly the youngest, the baddest and the bravest”
3)… He has arguably filled the void left by Vybz Kartel, the deejay who he is most often compared with.
4)… Currently, he more than any other entertainer, stirs the pot on topics about sex, especially topics that we usually discuss in private.
5)… He is able to grab our attention even though many of us will deny listening to his music, some of us are able to quote lyrics from his songs.
Alkaline said “my music represents everything that society is afraid of and society represents everything that I am afraid of”.
