Let me introduce you to Dr. Ingrid Walker-Descartes, currently a pediatrician and the Director of the Pediatric Residency Program in the Department of Pediatrics, at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY.

Born in Jamaica and influenced by her Jamaican roots, Dr. Walker-Descartes has dedicated her career to helping children. Beyond just the accolades, this mother of two, has shown through her personal experiences, that she can bring about positive changes in the lives of young children.

In the video below, Dr. Walker-Descartes talks about her Jamaican roots, and how a chance meeting with 3 year old foster child now 20, turned out to be a lasting relationship.

Her story draws similarities to many Jamaican families who immigrated to the US in search of a better life. Her success is an inspiration for all of us across the Caribbean. Beyond just her awards and designation, Dr. Walker-Descartes has shown us that passion and action can bring about positive change.
