UWI Mona graduate, Fabian Reid, a math teacher at Northeast Guilford Middle School in North Carolina, has been recognized as one of the most innovative teachers in the United States by The Henry Ford’s Innovation Nation Teacher Innovator Awards.

Mr. Reid holds the Bachelor’s degree with First-class honours in secondary math education from The University of the West Indies, Mona

The Innovator award recognizes successful educators with ingenuity and resourcefulness who are using the classroom to inspire innovation, creativity, problem-solving and critical thinking in their students.

Reid is one of 10 first-place winners in America who were selected by a team of judges that included The Henry Ford’s Innovation Nation correspondent Adam Yamaguchi, Henry Ford Learning Institute Executive Director Deborah Parizek, and Discovery Hub, a team of individuals specifically focused on innovation at Shell. Winners were selected based on their original and creative approaches to teaching.

“Mr. Reid is the epitome of innovation in the classroom,” says Dr. Jamie King, principal at Northeast Middle. “He teaches creatively and designs lessons that are interactive and take students through the learning experience at their own level and their own pace. This takes the slogan of personalized learning and actually makes it happen in the real world.”
