Twenty-five-year-old attorney-at-law Michelle Thomas of Jamaica has a passion for making a positive change in Jamaican society. Her involvement in various social support organizations in Jamaica reflects how deeply committed she is to a brighter future for Jamaica.
This year she was a finalist in the 2017 Commonwealth Youth Awards for Excellence in Development Work. Thomas is founder of ‘No Crime Movement’ that provides a platform to build support for a society based on respect for human rights.
So why does a young attorney who could instead concentrate on her law practice, get involve at this level? In a 2016 interview Thomas said,
“For me, to be a lawyer and not give back to society would be the highest level of hypocrisy, because I am who I am today because of my involvement and passion to serve my country and stand out”
That’s a powerful statement for a young professional who seems to be driven to help the less fortunate.
