29 Year Old Trinidadian Meets President Obama and Urges Him On Immigration Reform

On Wednesday Feb 4, 2015, Trinidadian Born Rishi Singh had the eyes and ears of the US President Barack Obama.

He was one of six young people called Dreamers, that met with the US President to bring attention to the plight of undocumented immigrants who have made the US their home since childhood.

Singh who came to the US from Trinidad and Tobago at the age of 10, found out that he was “illegal” when he tried to register for college.

But that didn’t stop Singh from completing college. He graduated the City University of New York with degrees in psychology and accounting. And knowing the plight of many like himself, he has been organizing for immigrant rights since he was 15. Singh is also an educational justice organizer at DRUM South Asian Organizing Center in New York, where he now reside.
